Deuce Ex Machina in the real world

Firstly, just to illustrate my ignorance I will admit to not even knowing how the phrase was pronounced.
So I looked it up.
Deuce Ex Machina. That's how.
It means literally God from the machine.
Apparently back in the day, a Crane would bring in a god-like figure onto the stage and all plot problems would be solved.
In modern TV and movies, every time a writer paints himself into a corner we are presented with a unique intervention by some outside entity, that restores the balance. Something that could not be predicted by any preceding moments.
One is meant to suspend disbelief and go home satisfied that all was well.
The big question is, how often does real life use Deuce Ex Machina to make the ends meet?
How often in the real world is an external unpredictable force responsible for a complete 180 on the situation? How often are we pulled from the jaws of disaster by a complete fluke that could not have been predicted? Does the real world use this plot device to perform in-flight corrections? And if so, would we actually be aware of these interventions.
One can only really look at one's own life, and I am forced to examine my own.
A few memories do surface, that could be seen as a "divine writers" intervention in the normal flow of things.
Did these magical moments simply happen by chance, or were they part of the grand scheme of things from the beginning.
Was the creator whinging it, or did he really plan the surprise?
Again a question, whose answer is unknowable.
Deuce Ex Machina.
In the real world.
