Huawei P30 Pro and the moon mode controversy

Huawei moon pics.
So Huawei released the new P30 Pro.
It has what they are calling the periscope lens that ingeniously overcomes the limitation of thin smartphones using a Prism.
The telephoto ability of most smartphone cameras is limited to the thinness of the phone as the zoom lens which needs to be long can't fit.
They attempt to correct for this using digital zoom which is essentially cropping the images, leading to a loss of detail.
With the p30 Pro they used a Prism to turn the light 90 degrees and then have much more runway to create a zoom lens.
An insane level of zoom for a camera.
The obvious thing to do with a lens like this would be to take a picture of the moon to see the level of detail it captures.
This is where it gets interesting. The Ai in board detects the moon and goes into "moon mode". It then uses stock images of the moon, angle of the earth, and time of the lunar cycle and enhances the image to an incredible level of detail.
When they were accused of cheating and if being borderline dishonest they went on to compare the moon mode to beauty mode where they artificially enhanced skin tone and removed blemishes.
It seems we are not aiming for accurate reality but photoshopped beauty in super saturated colour.
I would  still  go for the phone
The zoom trick would make for some very interesting shots.
