We were expecting this to be the low point of the trip. Tents in the middle of the desert didn't sound like much.

The reality was far from this.

The host at the Dream camp Abdulla was friendly and accommodating.

The tents were admittedly hot during the day and we were glad to have arrived in the mid-afternoon.

The sunset drive into the desert was incredibly beautiful and well worth the small fee.

We then had a spectacular meal, prepared the traditional way under the sand.

When the lights were turned down we communed with the stars.

For me, the connection with the ancient desert and the night sky teeming with more stars than one can imagine were very spiritual.

The chilling areas were done up in reds and bright colours that mirrored the colours of the sandstone.

Best advice for future travellers.
Arrive mid-afternoon, become one with the desert and the stars.
And get out before 10 the next day.

This leg of our journey ended up as the high point and we were all moved by the majesty of the desert.
